Welcome to Cocktailhound! I’m glad you stopped by, and hope you enjoy your visit. So, what’s a Cocktail Hound, you ask? In short, if you’ve landed on this site it’s probably you. Perhaps you’ve grown tired of the cloying tastes of the average hipster “martini”, usually little more than schnapps and overpriced vodka, and want something a bit more interesting. Maybe you’re a beer or wine drinker, but want to explore a more interactive imbibing experience, where you’re a key participant in creating the drink, rather than a mere spectator. You might even be a history buff, fascinated with the role alcohol and cocktails have played in different eras, and how they’ve evolved and shaped different historical periods. Maybe travel has exposed you to different drinking habits around the country or the world, or introduced you to a unique local specialty that found its way into your liquor cabinet, and evokes memories of past trips each time you pour a glass. Perhaps you choose my answer: “all of the above”, and have landed here as part of your cocktail journey.
I profess no special knowledge, no years behind a bar slinging drinks in a professional capacity, just an interest in cocktails and growing excitement as I explore their history, craft, and evolution.
Rather than striving to create a database with tens of thousands of banal drinks, each recipe presented here has been consumed by us on one or more occasions, with our personal tasting notes and any history behind the drink we were able to uncover, in addition to original photography of each and every drink. We encourage readers to add their own comments and ratings, and in the future, contribute their own favorite cocktail recipes. In short, we’re not about “my database is bigger than yours”, rather we want to linger on each drink, and drink what moves us at that particular moment.
Thanks for joining us, and bottoms up!
